Festival (नख: चख:)


Newāh people are also widely known for their feasts and festivals. Every months, they have something for celebration. Thus a folklore proceeds, “Newār bigriyo bhojale…” which means; Newāh people are spoiled (fluffed) owing to festivals. Based on Nepal Sambat, various festivals that befall every month are as follows:

  • Swanti (स्वन्ति)
  • Sakimilā Punhi (सकिमिला पुन्ही)
  • Bālā Chahre (बाला चह्रे)
  • Yomari Punhi (योमरी पुन्ही)
  • Ghyah -Chāku Sãlhu (घ्यो: चाकु सल्हु)
  • Swasthāni Bākhã Kane Punhi (स्वस्थानी बाखं कने पुन्ही)
  • Shree Panchami (श्री पंचमी)
  • Silā Chahre (सिला चह्रे)
  • Fāgu (Holi) Punhi (फागु – होलि पुन्ही)
  • Pāhãn Chahre (पाहाँ चह्रे)
  • Biskā Jātrā (बिस्का जात्रा)
  • Bungdyo Jātrā (Lokun Chahre) (बुन्ग्द्द्यो जात्रा)
  • JyābaJyā Jātrā (Bhoto) (ज्याब ज्या जात्रा)
  • Swānyā Punhi (स्वांया पुन्ही)
  • Sithi Nakha: (सिठी नख:)
  • Gathãn Mugah (गथाँ मुग:)
  • Goon lā Dharma (गूँला धर्म)
  • Gunhu Punhi (गुन्हू पुन्ही)
  • Sā Pāroo (सा पारू)
  • Pancha Dān (पञ्च दान)
  • Yanyā Punhi (यन्ह्या पुन्ही)
